Penout Tomb

Penout was the governor of upper Nubia during the reign of Ramses IV, The site where the tomb is located is known as Amada, and it’s become extremely popular due to the outstanding quality of the temples found there, Penout Tomb close to Abu Simbel Temple than Aswan City, it well known for the many unique and interesting inscriptions to be found on the walls and columns they contain.

On the east Bank of Lake Nasser, you will find yourself coming face to face with one of the rarest sights in Egypt, a rock cut tomb belonging to a Viceroy of Kush, it was relocated too from its original location in order to spare it from the flooding that was caused by the construction of the Aswan High Dam during the 1960s.

Visitors to that site will be able to see carvings on the tomb walls in which the Ramses IV honors his civil servant, this area was having 500 tombs remained in its place during the relocation process, it was like The Valley of the Kings at the West Bank on Luxor City, In fact, the tomb of Penout is the only remaining one from this era.

Penout Tomb is particularly fine and even contains its very own altar, the statues which would have once stood on it, it is now missing, The tomb also features large sections containing inscriptions and carvings, and a number of high quality paintings. Sadly, the tomb itself was robbed and no sign of Penout’s mummy was ever found.
