Islamic and Coptic Monuments at El-Fayoum
Islamic Monuments:
Qantara Al-Lahun
It is the old bridge that was built by the Mamluki Beberse, its location about 20 m. from Fayoum, it was built to organize irrigation in the town.
Qaitby Mosque
The mosque was built during the Mamluki era by the wife of Sultan Qaitbay, it dates back to the 15th century, its platform is very distinguished which was made in a way that enables it to be removed and installed, The door and the reader chair are original antiquities.
Sheikh Ali Al-Rubi Mosque
Sultan Barkouk ordered to build it in the honor of Sheikh Ali Al-Rubi, The minaret was built in the same style as Azhar minaret.
The Hanging Mosque
It was built by Prince Soliman in the beginning of the Ottoman era in 1576, The French Campaign listed this mosque in the famous book ‘Egypt Description’
Coptic Monuments:
Al-Malak Monastery
Situated on the Naklun Mountain, 16 km. south of Fayoum city, There are several caves in the vicinity that were once inhabited by early Christian Monks, in addition to the two old chapels, The Monastery dates back to the 5th century.
Al-Azab Monastery
Al-Azab Monastery, It is located at Al-Azab village, about 8 km from Fayoum city, it contains the shrine of Saint Abram who was a bishop of Fayoum, It obtain an old and a new Church and a Coptic Museum.
