Saladin the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty (1174-1260) is one of the greatest sovereigns in the history of Islam, in 1171 AD he decided to end the Fatimid caliphate in Cairo and establish his own dynasty which obtained the investiture from the Abbasid caliph in Baghdad.

 

Salah el Din Castle or crusader castle it is actually two castles in Pharaoh's Island in Taba, Salah el din Castle it built in the middle of the water surrounded by coral reefs, the water surrounding the island has excellent visibility, The fortress itself is definitely an interesting piece of history which lie on the last point of Egypt, recently restored by the Council of Egyptian Antiquities.

 

Pharaoh's Island is one of the most blatantly picturesque spots in the entire gulf. You can see four countries form the top of the island, Saladin conquered the island and rebuilt the citadel which built by crusaders who was occupied Syria and Palestine from (1098 to 129) and left a garrison of men there.

 

Salah El Din El Ayoubi based his soldiers on this strategic island in order to control the trade of products sail from Asia and demand ransoms from pilgrims on their way to Mecca, it has panoramic view merging between the coasts of Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

 

Salah El Din Castle on Pharaoh’s Island was added to the UNESCO World Heritage on July 28th, 2003, due to its purported universal cultural value.
