Al Anfoshi Cemetery

The archaeological Cemetery of Al Anfoshi is one of the most important Greek monuments in the city of Alexandria. These ancient tombs dated back to the third century BC (around 250 BC. AD) to the late Ptolemaic era and the early Roman era, it was discovered in 1901.

 

Anfoushi cemetery includes five funerary buildings (graves), two of which are considered the most important cemeteries in Alexandria with its unique architectural design. There are a lot Sphinx statues on the left and right sides of the burial chamber, because it was still a belief that the Sphinx guard the graves.
