Island of the Pharaoh

Island of the Pharaoh

Island of the Pharaoh is located 5 KM south of Taba, and 250 meters off the coast, the Island of the Pharaoh joined the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2003 due to its global value. It is a small granite atoll surrounded by coral reefs and dominated by the magnificent Saladin fortress, built by Crusaders in the 12th century and recently restored by the Council of Egyptian Antiquities.

Pharaoh's Island is one of the most blatantly picturesque spots in the entire gulf. You can see four countries form the top of the island. Salah El-Din based his soldiers on this strategic island in order to control the trade of products coming from Asia and demand ransoms from pilgrims on their way to Mecca.
